There’re quite a few “clever” cartoons like this, such as Archer and Family Guy, that make people feel clever by adding little in-jokes and references. But their actual messages are pretty dire. And what’s “clever” isn’t intelligent. This “cleverness” is a substitute for thought.

People use this “cleverness” to signal status and “being in the know”, but they then confuse the cleverness for actual thought. Conclusion: ban “The Simpsons”.
