So, instead of learning your mother’s recipes, you cook from the latest celebrity cookbook an “exotic” dish from India, China, or France. Perhaps you only cook properly one night a week and dad does it as a status symbol (if the marriage survives).

So there’s a relation between internationalisation, the destruction of local culinary traditions, divorce, obesity, and the rise of “status cooking”. It’s all to the benefit of multinational corporations.

AIDS has a similar story. It was helped along by the sexual revolution, and it destroyed the rooted and local traditions of “being gay” (e.g. slang like polari) bc so many died. By doing this, it paved the way for “gay identity” to be reconstructed as corporate property.
