2. ...there’s a difference between reaching this state through an excess of money, women, fame, and drugs and coming to the same state through repeated disillusion or kicks in the face. The vast majority of people do not reach this state through jaded excess.

3. Indeed, the vast majority desperately want money, women, fame, and drugs. This is why Brand makes people angry. He has had so much of these things he’s realised it’s all “no big deal”. Now he wants to tell everyone this “good news”.

4. He forgets that, while his point is true, he has reached it via an exceptional route that is not accessible to the vast majority of people—if not 99.9% of mankind. It’s not uncommon for people who have this revelation to start preaching.

5. Gurdjieff and Alan Watts and Shunryu Suzuki noted this “preacher stage”. What Brand hasn’t realised yet is that being a preacher of “Enlightenment” is also bullshit, just as money, women, fame, and drugs are bullshit.

6. He’s just changed what he thinks is a “big deal” from fame, money, women etc to “helping people” and being “empathetic”. But, guess what... “helping people” and “having empathy” are also no big deal and bullshit. Do it if you enjoy, by all means...

7...but don’t think it’s a solution. There is no solution. There’s just stuff that’s happening. Really, he should give up the preaching bullshit and go back to what he’s good at: stupid jokes, fame, women, drugs & money.

8. His job is to let people live vicariously through him when he does things they wouldn’t dare to in their pedestrian lives. The price of all that terrific celebrity fun is you die early, but we need these people as a psychic release.

9. But if you think being “Enlightened” or “helping people” is a solution, you’re just as trapped as if you’re pursuing money, fame, women etc as a solution. You still think that if you get something, everything will be ok. You just swapped empathy for money.

10. And you annoy people by trying to be “nice” and “help” when you should be getting high on coke with a load of pretty girls in a club before being snapped by a pap lying in a gutter in Camden. That’s what people celebs for, not some phoney preaching. Do phoney hedonism!

11. He’s not even a good preacher, because people resent his good fortune and excess. “I had so much money! I took too many drugs! Girls wanted to f!ck me!...it was...agony! (And no big deal).” “Yeah right,” says the public, “you loved every second so stick empathy up your arse.”

12. Basically, it’s turtles all the way down, folks. You turn over one turtle and you get another. You pierce one veil and there’s another. You get over one load of bullshit and you end up with another load of bullshit. The trick is not to mind and to pierce the veils faster.
