In my view, it’s a mistake to “make” things happen. As soon as you start to think “I must do this” internal resistance sets in. We’re taught to overthink from quite an early age, particularly in school. I tend to think we know what to do, and that thought block us.
Unsurprisingly, people get into terrible trouble trying to think their way out predicaments when they don’t need to think at all. They become obsessed with finding the right label, when all that matters is if something improves or impairs your functioning.

This is why people remain in situations that are obviously bad for them, even if they know this is so at gut level. They have become so used to making up explanations and giving reasons that they have to justify the obvious or argue themselves out of it.
