You're not insulated from the consequences of food production given that you pay a price for whatever you choose (and can afford) to consume. Also subjected to perverse incentives—e.g. food producers flood market w/ cheap sugary snacks. May not starve, but die of diabetes.
What about ego and desire? Don’t people feel a need for sex, which they then seek to have met in the market place.
