Gottfried, P (2016) “Fascism: the career of a concept”: Gottfried overstretched slightly, I think, in saying that fascism only belonged ot a particular epoch and is now dead. This is true in a sense, but all political ideas from communism to liberalism are reiterated.

They all have, in my view, different manifestations in different epochs but the ideas are interpreted and reinterpreted in new forms. Gottfried wants to say fascism is dead, I think, to open the door for a new form of rightist resistance to the managerial state.

That project would be impeded by any hint of a revivified fascism, and so he must place fascism in the past. I think this isn’t true. Communism, fascism, liberalism, socialism, anarchism...these ideas have an eternal element to them.
