How to classify the contemporary hard right? It’s postfascism or postNazism. It’s beyond neo-Nazism & neo-fascism, which were still closely tied to regime memory. Similarly, the hard left is postcommunist. Zizek & Badiou are to the left what Moldbug & Land are to the right.

A teacher said to me 15 years ago, “Soon people will forget Nazism and fascism, and then these ideas will return.” I didn’t think he was right, but he was probably right. The living memory of WWII is almost gone, and that will change life significantly, as my teacher knew.

The “black sun” is a pagan symbol. But it’s mostly been used by neo-Nazis as a slightly obscure SS symbol that can substitute for the swastika. I’ve noticed that this symbol is bleeding into popular consciousness. See: Shakira; Jonathan Meades’s show on slang (Meades leftist).pic.twitter.com/IOQGSdt4Ye

What does the emergence of this symbol in popular culture portend? I don’t think it’s a literal return of Nazism of fascism, but there’s a shift to the paternal & authoritarian in the West. Since WWII, the material and liberal has predominated. This symbol represents a return.

(*maternal and liberal) Full history of the “black sun” can be found in Goodrick-Clark’s “Black Sun: Aryan Cults, Esoteric Nazism, and the Politics of Identity” (2003), & deeper roots of Nazi esotericism “The Occult Roots of Nazism” (1985). See also: Indiana Jones; Wolfenstein 3D

Goodrick-Clark held the position “Professor of Western Esotericism”, which I think is a fantastic job title.

Addendum: About 2 years ago I spontaneously started researching fascism. I looked into Mishima, Malaparte (La Pelle), FN, Hitler. I think I sensed some deeper movement in the world, a movement back towards the right that was subterranean. Again, not fascism but the hard right.

It can be very tiresome to identify every other figure as “proto-fascist” or whatever, but the comedian Russell Brand is actually quite fascistic: he is charismatic, an orator, believes in spirituality, & is anti-capitalist.

Brand interviews Jordan Peterson. Brand hates the corporations. Peterson hates “postmodern” domination in the unis. What neither man manages is to do is connect the dots: the “postmodern” unis produce the ideology that coordinates the corporate-state system.
