Theresa May & Grenfell Tower: This event showed up both the limits of female leadership and the limits of managed political leadership. May bungled an opportunity to cement her leadership & lost credibility in a major way.
But, in reality, she couldn’t lose. The best case scenario would have been a front page of her hugging a crying victim. Immediately humanising and very good press. The worst scenario was a riot against her. This would have also been good press. She would have become the victim.

Instead, she hung back and looked like a cold, calculating, coward. Corbyn, admittedly in a stronger position, waded in and received good coverage. Conclusion: leadership requires courage, initiative, and the comfort with the unexpected. May demonstrated neither. Price paid.
