The trend of awarding literary prizes to women, minority groups, disabled merely demonstrates that literature is dead as a prestige field. It is, as with sitting in parliament, a booby prize for people who think this is where power lies. The real action is in cybernetics & online

When power leaves a field, the field does not disappear. The latecomers, the people who looked up and saw this as prestige, are invited into the field to pretend they have prestige. McLuhan noted that poor whites were the last to literacy just as the literate society went pop.

When women dominate a field that field is no longer dynamic or important. Note that old fashioned publishing is completely female-dominated, and this industry is just dead but unburied.
