Finally got our hands on a Fomu – a Python-programmable FPGA in an ultra-small form factor! With RISC-V compatibility and more, what a great learning tool:

Using the pre-supplied toolchain I just built my first FPGA image for a fomu! Woot! Thanks &

If you’re still at , interested in reconfigurable hardware (FPGAs) and open source tools, and don’t already have a Fomu, still has a few to give to people who can show the dev tools already installed. Takes about 10 minutes on conf WiFi to get started!

Hey and I’ve got this idea... I’ve been using the ESP32 RMT module recently and it occurred to me that it could be a generally useful thing. So I’m looking in to creating it in FPGA logic and accessing it via MicroPython. Any comments on trying this on Fomu?

At and want a FPGA development board that fits inside your USB port with FOSS toolchain? IE A FPGA (Fomu)? Show you have set up toolchain from (supports Linux, Windows & Mac -- takes 10 minutes) and you'll get one for free!

FWIW, on the way back from CCC with my shiny new FOMU in hand I found 's LCA talk from last year which covers the manufacturing process at length

Inspired by watching talk again I thought it might be fun to take a look at the Fomu made by and and see what went into this seemingly simple tiny product. Please bare in mind I'm no expert at this, just the knowledge I picked up over time. (Thread)

In 2019, I gave out ~1500 FPGA devices! That is a lot of new FPGA hackers who are using the open source toolchain. I wonder how many I will give away in 2020? Can't wait to see what everyone does.

Hope people who have taken the workshop will be excited to run workshops at their local hackerspaces and other groups. Can probably send groups Fomus to give out. My email is me@mith.ro

Still have 100 boards left at on the last day. So you get *one* last chance to show me an installed toolchain from the workshop. 1pm -> 2pm at the Hardware Hacking Assembly. Right of the stage at the tables. Wearing a dull red hoody.

Tried it yesterday and it is really awesome to see a usb drive and serial port pop up, copy a python script and have it run. The progress I’ve seen with fomu is amazing

Trying out reversible USB-A. I believe this should work fine with the proper circuit, but haven't found any good references. Can I nerd snipe some of you to review the circuit I came up with?⚡️

Got the replacement chip for my soon to be resurrected fomu board. It's hard to portray just how darn tiny this FPGA really is with these photos.
