Very sad news. First met Guy when he, Roger Backhouse and I worked together in the Trade Union Information Group, in the 1980s

Breaking twitter silence to share the very sad news of the death of a dear and much-loved @CILIPinfo colleague, Guy Daines. As warm, intelligent and generous a colleague and one of the most passionate champions of library ethics and public libraries as I have ever known. #RIP Guy

What could be more agreeable, on a Bank Holiday Monday, than the return of Only Connect and University Challenge? The Monday evening pattern is set from now until April 2023

A striking docker at Felixstowe laps the deserted port with their flag flying high. Workers’ power at its best - nothing moves without us. Brilliant work from the striker who captured this moment and from all those taking a stand for a proper pay rise 👏

Just checked the current opening hours. The central flagship library is only staffed on four half days a week (they offer so-called self service access outside those hours, but adults only)

By chance, switching on on my return from my run on the centenary of his birth, I come upon a discussion of Larkin, his own reading of Broadcast, correspondence from a librarian who’d worked for him and Maeve Brennan discussing her shoes

Physical libraries are dismissed on environmental grounds...and so on....Presenting at journal clubs shouldn't be a blood sport, but if I presented this, there might have to be an exception made

They miss the point about predatory journals: "Predatory journals are driven by profits..." Er, so are non-predatory journals. One wonders why they didn't consult an information professional when designing the study (the authors are in institutions that boast some excellent ones)

Where to begin? The paper doesn't show a deep understanding of citations, citing behaviour, online resources or biomedical publishing. The word naïve might occur to a less charitable reader . The sample is small (n=156) with no detail on how respondents were recruited.
