On the heels of removing support for 8 architectures completely, 32-bit ARM no longer being maintained in the upstream Linux kernel: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=18bd49043caa8b272649d4868c29133eb0a3d143 …

Lots of "embedded" devices running Linux use CortexA7s. The imx6 is mass production on several I know about. It's crazy someone single sided decided this. The yocto nonsense exists for imx6 sure but still a lot of a7 based devices. If LinuxFoundation had one job.... Unreliable

The fact there was no heads up and action from
#linuxfoundation shows how broken this organization is. And their goal is, quote: "Support the development of Linux" Linux goal - "OSS that is useful for commercial purposes" Not even a discussion occurred prior to announcement...1 reply 1 retweet 2 likes -
And Linux goal makes sense, because business around it makes sure it develops. In this case the organization "behind" it didn't do a thing to bring awareness... I'm sure someone would have stepped up from the business for arm 32, especially v7

from what I gather from the message, the current maintainer is not paid anymore to maintain 32 bit arm - if that's a real issue, then he should get paid to do it again (I'm pretty sure he needs to eat like the rest of us), or someone has to set up to this role.

The fact he will stop getting paid, end of contract, could have been brought forward way sooner than the exact end date. Read and think before writing.

Replying to @tomov_eu @nico_charles and
No one expects him OR anybody to work for free. The fact that end date matches announcement date is poor management - on his part and LF as related to their commitment for supporting the development of Linux.

There are clearly plenty of people, Linus and the companies involved in the KSPP for instance, that expected that we'd do work for free. Also, it seems even worse than what you mentioned as he said his contract ended at the end of 2017, so several months elapsed w/ no action

How would you feel about a rival to LinuxFoundation? I feel the lack of competition on this (organizational) level has its toll.

Doesn't seem like it would solve the real problems, which in part have to do with the unwillingness to discuss honestly or act on the real problems, and instead just repeat any upstream claims and feed into its superiority complex, regardless of the observable product.
