“Dissatisfaction on all sides is rife at Anchorage. There seem to be several bones of contention between the people and government officials, such as low wages, short hours, employment of foreigners, discrimination against Americans, etc.” - Cordova Daily Times, 1915 😂

It’s the Sourdough Fuel across from the movie theater, if *you* are interested in the Crime Tour of Fairbanks.

In my defense, it was a compelling story. Shooter had somehow hidden in the back seat of the car, and his girlfriend and the suspected Other Man had gone for a drive. When they stopped to get gas, shooter got out and confronted them. Victim survived, shot through the cheek.

So true. In a bygone relationship, my partner told me to stop giving her “the crime tour of Fairbanks.” She had a point; I’d just mentioned we were at the same gas pump where a guy shot another guy in the face a couple years back. (Victim may have been part of a love triangle?)

Also I freely acknowledge my bias in this because the YQ is a Fairbanks/Whitehorse race. But that doesn't mean I'm wrong. Check it out.

This is my yearly reminder that the Yukon Quest is actually more fun to watch online than the Iditarod because the tracker is free (!) and you can get super nerdy about musher speeds in the tough parts of the trail by watching the "Race Flow" tracker. It's great.

India is testing a system that keeps lights red if people are honking too much (dB meter). Kinda smart. But how long until activism where non-car commuters play noise super loud at intersections to freeze the grid and make the streets non-motorized only?

Much like the Iowa caucuses, my commute home contains far too much needless sitting around and periodic disbelief at other people’s antisocial behavior.

I don't know if this is a good or a bad time to say this, but every time I have witnessed a caucus, they have been ugly spectacles where those with the most vocal supporters belittle those with fewer. It's a dumb way to choose candidates.

Fully willing to believe this says more about me than about the albums' objective musical quality, but I'm perfectly happy to listen to 's Clarity>Bleed American>Futures>Chase This Light back-to-back-to-back-to-back. In fact, brb while I do that.

“The Yukon Quest is frickin’ grueling” - Aliy Zirkle, who won it in 2000 ADN's Marc Lester was in Fairbanks for the start of the 1,000-mile race to Whitehorse on Saturday, with the smallest field in Quest history

Today's the day, Alaska journalists - get those entries in!

Something I just looked up for a caller: How did Alaska's U.S. senators vote on President Clinton's impeachment? Ted Stevens: Guilty on one article, not-guilty on the other. Frank Murkowski: Guilty on both.

Ironically, the parts of her statement I expect nearly everyone will be able to agree on (regardless of their impeachment stance) are that Congress is more partisan than ever, and that it has failed.

This is also Alaskans’ passive-aggressive way of communicating “wrap it up” to whoever’s running the meeting.

I don't know if this is the experience of other opinion editors, but I feel like I see letter-writers calling female politicians by their first names all the time, and they rarely do so for male politicians. Yes, I change it. Everyone gets title/first/last on first reference.
