I get why this is funny. On the other hand, this is the perfect type of job for a parent whose spouse has a full-time job with benefits. Part-time work without benefits is a preferred option for a lot of people.

It’s not meant to be funny, and simply asserting that “a lot of people” prefer part-time work without benefits doesn’t make it so. And limiting journalism jobs to people who don’t need to work is warped.
