Why has rising tide of ethnic minority participation in politics largely passed the LibDems by? What could party do now, practically, to catch up? Speaking on this, 8pm Saturday. I'll develop these themes (2015 blog) a bit. Do share any views on thishttps://twitter.com/sundersays/status/990200554822537216?s=19 …

Sunder Katwala @sundersaysAn effective LibDem diversity strategy needs to think more about how to emulate Tory more than Labour progress. My advice on the practical steps that would help published here https://www.markpack.org.uk/137957/liberal-democrat-incumbency-2015-general-election/amp/?__twitter_impression=true#mctoc2 …Show this thread3 replies 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -

Probably because Lib Dem target seats / constituencies are all very white? Would really be representative if they were a diverse party

Only up to a point. Partly (Celtic fringe historic strength, but not true of southwest london, etc). Cons have now broken with "ethnic faces for ethnic voters" idea. Yet LDs appeal is to graduates, under 45s, London remainers. Those are all above average in ethnic diversity

Mmmm but there’s voters and there’s activists. Purely anecdotally, I’ve always seen Tory’s attracting a diverse activist base, less so both Labour and Lib Dem’s (at least where I am)

Parliamentarians; activists/members; voters are different spheres. People exaggerate the links: non-white MPs *not* esp key driver of non-white voters (but everyone thinks they are). Having Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn or Vince Cable are not driver of winning female or older votes!

Are they a driver of BAME local activists however? Or is there no reliable data. That could indirectly have a knock on
