Thank you @jamelia for raising the issues of false accusations and the damaging impact controlling behaviour and discrediting someone's character has as a form of abuse. We receive lots of calls from men which fit this. #CBB

do you think we should call I ‘violence’. I don’t think we should. We shouldn’t stoop to the same manipulation of language that they do. Surely ‘psychological abuse’ more appropriate?

One way of defining violence is: strength of emotion or of a destructive natural force. There are many forms of violence - including physical violence. Her behaviour was a form of emotional and psychological violence because there was intent to harm.

I respect that possible interpretation of the word ‘violence’. It just makes me a bit uncomfortable - I don’t like it.

Violence is uncomfortable. The entire situation was beyond uncomfortable. Violence comes in many forms, it intends to harm, and it has power. But you're right about the use of the word abuse here too: violence is a form of abuse and there are other forms of abuse also.

That's ok: the great thing about words is that they have so many connotations and provoke so many thoughts. Words are just as powerful as physical violence and that is why they, themselves, are violent.

yeah, you see I don’t buy that. I don’t deny the power of words. But physical violence in on another plane of reality for me. It can underwrite the power of words.. but they’re not the same in terms of their ability to rip apart the fabric of reality.
