I imagine the Great Recession + the difficulty in having a positive recovery from it. Iirc there was like nearly a 10% in manufacturing capacity utilization, plus the loss of employment w/ no really clear way to get it moving back to pre-recession levels

Fair enough. I wonder to what extent the new jobs are “jobs” though. Not sure if you’ve seen this - harder to pull off in manufacturing but very common in the corporate sector. “Manufacturing” employment may include a lot of oversight / pretend roleshttps://www.strikemag.org/bullshit-jobs

I haven't but I'll check it out, thanks! And yeah, def agree on the possibility of a dubious jobs. Not sure what the situation looks like today but for a good part of this period the FIRE sector was amassing huge sums of capital but investing very little back into the economy
