This is a terrible tragedy and awful end to a brutal year. It is a system failure that resulted in irreversible harm to two families. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. We will hold the man who did this accountable. We will support the families of the victims

DAs can write a letter to the parole board to object to a prisoner's release, but it is out of their hands ultimately. Parole boards are staffed with psychologists and parole is only granted if they judge it is not a safety risk. For covid, many inmates were paroled early:

Parole was granted to people meeting all of these criteria: * nonviolent felonies * Not sex offenders * <60 days to serve Parole is a good thing. It provides supervision and accountability as people are reentering society.https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/covid19/frequently-asked-questions-expedited-releases/ …

The replies infuriate you? And the crimes and carnage - any thoughts on those? “Support” for the victims’ families rings hollow now as does his approach to “accountability”, don’t you think? Why does he get to use our city’s population as pawns in his radical experiments?
-
Of course the crimes infuriate me as well. I lost a friend to gun violence this year in SF. Pinning the blame on one elected official is not a productive way to grieve. I want accountability, and I *also* want the system to be improved so people don't turn to crime.

There is no such thing as over-incarceration when criminals get caught and released ad nauseam, re-victimize, and all because of people like Chesa and judges who agree. This is murder by bureaucracy.
-
More succinctly, "Let us get away with shit!" Chesa: "Okay!"

They have several roles, but the relevant ones here seem to be (1) choosing the most serious offenses and dangerous offenders to prosecute, (2) successfully doing so, and (3) ensuring the most dangerous have minimal chance to wreak further harm. Which looks like was not done.
