Computer science and category theory blend in the theory of "optics": different systems for viewing and interacting with data. As part of the ACT2019 school, Emily Pillmore and Mario Román have written a great overview of these: https://golem.ph.utexas.edu/category/2020/01/profunctor_optics_the_categori.html … Lenses, prisms & more!pic.twitter.com/sLcko6gGur

I still think this is the main reason why you should learn Haskell. Separating side effects from your pure code brings clarity to your programs, this might be hard to recognize if you're not being forced to by the compiler.

I had an experience recently where I was decomposing/factoring a thousand line js program with 6 levels of callback hell into pure functions, only to realize I could do the same thing with a few lines of code. decomposition/factoring is key to understanding. code is math :D

next time someone says you have to understand monads to write hello world in haskell, I'll point out that you have to understand memory layout and pointers to compare strings for equality in java if that an unfair, misleading, and mostly useless phrasing? exactly!

Talking about “clean code” is a waste of energy. Let’s instead talk about pure and compositional code cause those have actual definitions and value.

Vždycky jsem si myslel že smyslem důchodové reformy je vyřešit, odkud vzít peníze na důchody, až kvůli stárnutí populace klekne současný průběžný systém. A vida. Teď taky máme od

people say haskell types are some weird arcane runes, impossible to decipher, but like ... compare `concatMap :: [a] -> (a -> [b]) -> [b]` to SelectMany<TSource,TCollection,TResult>(IEnumerable<TSource>, Func<TSource,IEnumerable<TCollection>>, Func<TSource,TCollection,TResult>)

I'm starting to notice this problem (and similar) too. F# is so effective that it exposes weaknesses in other areas of the business such as procedures, documentation, project management, etc. It sounds like a crap parody but it is not. It's real. (1/2)

@ploeh talk. It blows my mind how functional programming improves resiliency. When I leave a project for a while and come back couple of weeks later I really want the code to keep me in check, not other way around

I once thought that object-oriented languages were the only way to build extremely complex systems. I now believe that object-oriented languages RESULT in extremely complex systems.
