Mindfulness is a skill I learned about a year ago while I was in therapy for depression and anxiety.
Focus on your breath. Inhale and say “in”, either aloud or (usually) to yourself. Let it in and say “out”. Label other thoughts “thought” and set them aside. Practice.

Works well. I started doing this in 2011, also for anxiety. I know it as "noting practice". My way into it was through Daniel Ingram's MCTB book building on the Mahasi Sayadaw tradition. and lurking on the Dharma Overground. Also Kenneth Folk, Shinzen Young .
