alright this is dumb. i managed to buy the emu10k1x which is the hollowed-out "software accelerated" version of the chip
found another one...

during design they emulated this chip on an FPGA, connected to a modified PC with a PCI bus at 600kHz

emu10k1 card arrived. but it is 5v and soekris slot is 3v3. prev emu10k1x card was dual voltage apparently.
studio pc has only one slot and is already hosting the delta1010.
i'm going to take this as a hint that i'm pushing the nostalgia a bit too far...

so i started out with a net5501 that i no longer use. on top of that i now have a new old net4501 that doesn't boot my linux (it does have freebsd), a emu10k1x that's basically worthless, and a emu10k1 that will likely end up in another workstation away from the music corner

it's in the new xeon box now. delta1010 seems to crash that one, so emu10k1 is running jack with 16in/16out into the FX processor's bus. haven't played with it yet, but idea is to add this arch to the "grand unifying dataflow language" i've been working on
