They have like 7 numbers for every account! No wonder crypto happened

one thing i really find funny is that banks have a "bill pay service" where they figure out for you how to transfer money to your power company, the sewer district etc...

yes if you come from the european system this makes utterly no sense

the simplest thing is often to write a paper check, e.g. to pay a contacter if they don't take credit card

Paper check lol - I think these were banned in Finland in the 90s or so

the dutch embraced chip and pin long ago, i remember being in a supermarket 25ish years ago and some guy used a cheque, they had to phone the bank, it held the queue up for ages

here they went the other route: there is OCR that can handle checks built into some cash registers
soon there will be check-handling AI
i can't remember the name now but i think the guy who wrote this lisp variant or lisp to c converter worked on something like that, yan le coune or something, the guy not the lisp
