I took a break from things this week to do some cleanup and convert a lot of my old Debian hack pile-ons to NixOS. As someone on IRC mentioned, it is a revelation.

There's still a lot of work to do to port over old hacks, but I'm convinced this is the way forward. I feel I "get it" now, also on a practical level so I can debug things and use it to do substantial custom work.

I've assimilated 7 darlings into the collective. The printer server is next. I'm dreading that one though.

Now I have to admit, I was cursing at this before I plugged in the USB cable... But there is a real error as well. I copied over my PPD files so likely just the usual /nix/store path missing.

Ok works with newer brlaser driver. Old hpijs hack wasn't necessary any more for this old Brother HL-2240 that for some reason just keeps running.

Realistically, learning NixOS means reading nixpkgs source. I don't think there is a way around it.
