Started translating the Python VM impl to Lua to get some idea about how this works. Probably not the best way is it's fairly cryptic. Javascript VM might have been a better place to start.
Lua's 1-based array indexing makes this not straightforward.. and Python's inventive "x if cond then y" I almost forgot about :-). Other than that the languages are quite close.
