I’ve realised over time that I have far less issue with people making false or unproven statements and far more issue with their confidence in making them

This can be turned into a heuristic: if someone is too sure, then add doubt. This is hard, I found. Trusting confidence is somehow built into how we are wired for social interaction. At least, I think so. Not sure.
