ha just did the most delightful bit of "appropriately timed optimization"; quite complicated thing (jffs2 filesystem un/repacker tool) that was running slow but I finished it and now, looking at completed thing, I can see the perfect place to add a cache, in 5 lines of code

there's something about being able to let go of all the mental scaffolding after completion. frees up a lot of space to look at things in a different light.
