Please let the 8051 die in peace. Or bake in some clever instruction set extensions to offer better C++ support.

sdcc? never used but it seems listed. bonus points for making it bit serial and implementing a forth for it.

nope! it's a dialect of C that's not reentrant (without an expensive pragma), whereas C requires functions to be reentrant. i actually know what i'm talking about
i don't know if that arugment holds. there are also existing 8051 softcores i presume :)
