Have a word with the unions who demand such high pay rises. Then we might see the costs of running trains reduce and rails fares too.

And to add insult to injury school kids who have to travel to school by train are treated as adults from the age of 16. Diagraceful
#TheDailySqueeze -
We need a legal definition of adult. Perhaps “18 and no longer in secondary education”? After this you’re an adult with all that entails (benefits, voting, marriage, etc) Before this, you’re a child and (among other things) cannot legally be charged adult prices for anything.

But how will that prevent fare rises, improve timetabling and reduce overcrowding without costing non rail travellers more through subsidy?

Cancel HS2 and invest the sums in improving existing railway structure.

Tom, I support nationalisation of the railways under the following circumstances: First and foremost, it cannot be run by governments. An independent body must manage them without interference. Second, it’s paid for with the HS2 white elephant money.

The track, stations and infrastructure are all nationalised. Government through DFT sets terms of franchises. Franchises only run services and make less than 3% profit. What part are you going to nationalise?

That will require massive tax payers subsidies, so be clear with voters. Even if you put the total profit made by rail companies back into the service you’d still need these fare increases.

Why Tom? To match German investment we need to double our train subsidies https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_subsidies …

Tom,
@c2c_Rail is foreign owned, driver only trains and is an award winning line. Don’t tar all networks with the same brush. Can you give a cost of Re-Nationalising the whole industry and advise who is going to pay for it? -
You won’t get a reply to that question mate.

Tom, before you nationalise any more of the railways you should make sure Network Rail works properly, it's done some good work at Reading and Derby, but its electrification schemes have mostly been shambolic, and its track and signalling maintenance is way below standard.

Wage increases driven by your union masters are the cause. Are you going to reign in the unions? No, of course not. We will see even more increases. Or are you going to get the taxpayer to fund this like everything else in your plans.

And no disability access to Old Hill- so if you, like me, have a condition limiting mobility, you have to travel to the station not on your doorstep for the luxury of accessing the platform.

Please don’t tell me your going to nationalise them again? It was a disaster last time around. There’s only two ways to pay for them, either fares or taxes. Either way someone pays. To renationalise would just mean paying more for less.

Cant wait to pay higher taxes so a London banker can get subsidised rail travel.
