This is very cool. After WW2, several Lancaster bombers were converted to civilian passenger aircraft. Two of them also had the outer engines converted to jets - so if they went wrong, they could still land with the propeller engines! Amazing:

If you're talking about all the USA military forces, what's the usual designation? Wikipedia says United State Armed Forces, but that's "USAF" which also means the Air Force. Maybe just "the Pentagon"? Bit goofy. Is there a better term?
