    2003: The SQL Slammer worm was first observed. Slammer spread to the vast majority of all vulnerable hosts worldwide in 10 minutes. Yes, 10 minutes. Though Microsoft released MS02-039 to patch the buffer overflow vuln in SQL Server six months earlier, many orgs hadn't patched.

    2018: Alphabet Inc launched a new business unit, Chronicle, to sell cyber security software to Fortune 500 companies. It had been a secret project within X, Google's "moonshot" R&D org. By 2019 it was folded into Google Cloud, much to the shock and surprise of employees.

    1986: The first PC virus appeared. It was a boot sector virus called Brain, which spread via infected floppy disks to computers running MS-DOS. It was written by 2 brothers in Pakistan to protect their medical software from piracy. They later even licensed Brain. 🤔😮🤯
