The passage has two erroneous uses of the word “crescendo,” which in music is a period of time in which the volume rises gradually. Text reads: “As the ghatam player reached the end of the performance, his tapping rose to a crescendo. The audience was transfixed. Kaveri had heard similar concerts many times before, but even she was impressed at the skill of the player. His fingers looked like they were flying through the air. The audience stood up and clapped as the hefty, middle-aged player threw the baked clay instrument up in the air, caught it in mid air, drummed on it and returned it to its resting place on his ample paunch, all without losing a beat.
As the percussion reached a crescendo and then dipped, a loud scream rang out.”
