But it still could still be from a lab culturing strains & selecting manually for ones that grow on human cells. Let natural evolution do the hard work under controlled settings? Doesn't require malicious intent, but it's still possible this is an escaped sample or experiment.

Until we find a 'natural' virion closely related to this one - artificial selection remains on the table. Absence of direct gene editing does not prove lack of human involvement.

turns out it's highly conserved across coronaviruses, it's also 95% similar to SARS itself yes these two are most similar to each other, but it's a tiny protein, 5% difference for a 75 amino acid protein is just a couple of residues here, compared to SARS

Nice critical essay on three of the best movies of the 90s, and the Europe they portrayed. Kieślowski’s trilogy shows characters awaking from various forms of disillusionment, like Europe from nationalism, and learning that even atomized individualism is its own kind of illusion.

It is disconcerting that, in the last 24 hours, the head of has posted nearly 10 tweets with obsequious praise for China (incl RT'ing state-owned CGTN, notorious for airing forced confessions). This is the same WHO that unfairly excludes democratic Taiwan.
