Dear , can you please add timestamps to your CI logs? Per-stage/job timestamps are not nearly enough.

okay, I've been tugging with this for a while, and I'm kind of stuck. So, thread on twitter asking for people who may have thought about this more! A lot of racist folks using "immigrants are spooky" as a dogwhistle have this implicit "white people aren't *really* immigrants"

If you're going to call every new person of color or white woman a "diversity hire" then you also have to call every new white man a "privilege hire". Don't blame me, those are just the rules.

This is your regular reminder to people in the tech industry that the choices you make in your job matter.

This is part of the reason I think is absolutely amazing. It looks like it gives you the freedoms of large, physical objects, along with the power of computers and programming. Naturally, it has a long way to go, but it looks like very promising research.

When I do end up typing things up, I tend to go for the most minimal formats I can - Markdown, PlantUML - I want to think of the words and phrasing - not fonts and colors - as I formalize my ideas.

I usually only turn to the computer for formalizing and making sure I'm coherent. Sitting and typing documents doesn't evoke the same type of thinking for me. Also, no tools allow me to visualize as freely (maybe different with a stylus/tablet).

When a board is not available, I use blank A4 or A3 paper instead. It's still effective, but the reduced size and inability to edit are very limiting. I end up going through _a lot_ of drafts before getting to the final idea, and being able to edit is important.

My favourite tool for software design is a whiteboard + colorful markers. Being able to stand up, move about, write and edit freely, and use a large visual medium all help me think. I also like "design parties" - headphones on, dance about as you draw on the board.

For reference: before I stopped doing gov-funded research, it was common to see gov offices / contractors with *policies* of ignoring licenses. Telling Palantir they can’t use your open software is a good symbolic stance, but probably won’t be enough to have the impact you want.

Some things make more sense when one realizes that there are at least 5 distinct security communities: Security product people (people that view security as something that can be added by buying/selling products), Security Infrastructure people (people that view security as ...

Translating terms between programming languages is hard. Say you want your resources to be automatically released when you leave a scope... You should probably use or depend on: - Deterministic destruction - destructors - Automatic Resource Management - RAII - with statements ...
