It all depends on the historical record. Hitler's vegetarianism didn't hurt anybody else. His gun control did a lot of damage, and, at least, shows the danger of gun registration lists getting into the hands of a criminal government.https://twitter.com/tmcmh/status/1171173098219024386 …
The idea that ordinary German citizens would take up arms against the Nazis when the French and British didn't (Munich) seems far-fetched; the far better defense against tyranny is strong & independent institutions, and an informed populace.

All else being equal, I’ll take strong institutions plus a population that is both informed and armed over a population that is merely informed.

But it's worth noting that the Germans were concerned enough about an armed populace that the first thing they did when conquering a town was to collect the locals' guns. Photo from Halbrook's 'Gun Control in Nazi-Occupied France: Tyrany and Resistance.'pic.twitter.com/EiPieMiLrD

There's an irony here in that the cities like NYC where I live that have stronger regulations on gun ownership are also the nation's primary bulwarks against tyranny. Today's tyrants don't worry about armed citizens, they worry about independent media and free elections.

An informed populace if you can keep it, over authors like Kopel, Halbrook, Knox being placed on the banned books lists of the totalitarian-run "education" system.
