The community is changing, growing, evolving and is materially different to how @sarahmei remembers it back in 2004. How are Ruby events going to evolve to keep nurturing this growth? Supporting the code school phenomenon and its alumni seems prudent.

Striking the balance can be hard because sometimes handing over the reigns is difficult. But focusing on empowering others (newcomers) to contribute will become the main goal eventually (over coding) and thats when you might need to learn a whole new set of skills...

So what happens if you don’t want to progress along a leadership / management track (for whatever reason). You might not have a sense of what a career path then looks like.

But rest assured there are many options and opportunities to develop people skills that are so necessary for effective collaboration are also many. Plus leadership doesn’t necessarily look like you thought - one company at scale may look very different to another.
