I think/hope that more and more universities are understanding the importance of teaching writing, publishing, and presentation skills to grad students across the board. Shouldn’t it be part of the core curriculum?

I see it as a different kind of close reading. Reading like a writer is about relaxing the muscle that mines for data and claims and building the muscle that unearths structure and function. How does the writer create those textual effects? Could I do something like that?

As an acquisitions editor at a university press, I am totally open to working with independent scholars in however you define that term. I just ask that you please figure out a way to get an accurate email online in lieu of a faculty page so I can contact you about your work.

Wendy Belcher on the grad students she taught academic writing to: “It was like they were shipwrecked, clinging to each other, thinking, ‘What is this crazy place that we've found ourselves in where our primary task is the very thing they don't teach us.’”

Most presses will have your MS copyedited. Usually by a freelancer. This is a person who is likely working for less than market rates because they enjoy academic editing & maybe take a particular interest in your subject matter. Best to assume they’re an ally, not an antagonist
