After 2 weeks, spread was actually GREATER in the supervised quarantine group (2.8%) than in the control group (1.7%). The study also found that 90% of those infected were asymptomatic, consistent with other research.pic.twitter.com/W7NqcHoq2x

The Mt. Sinai researchers noted that the Marines "most likely experienced better compliance than what would be possible in...settings like college campuses." I'd say that's probably a reasonable assumption. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-11-marine-reveals-asymptomatic-sars-cov-transmission.html …pic.twitter.com/jlYmyf17ip
The study calls into serious question the effectiveness of the approach taken at college campuses across the US. It also suggests that NPIs - masks, isolation, business & school closures, distancing, etc. - imposed upon the general public do little to mitigate transmission.
We know this first hand as our son is going through Basic in the Army. His completion of basic was delayed by quarantine, etc.
Fantastic and important find @tlowdon
I’m really beginning to wonder at this point, is SARSCoV2 actually a respiratory virus? @JohnDStats @MonicaGandhi9
If not respiratory, what else could it be that would allow it to spread so easily?
Scary figs. Do the DI's have to wear face masks? Just thinking of the amount of spittle flying around...and yes this is a serious question.
"All recruits wore double-layered cloth masks at all times indoors and outdoors, except when sleeping or eating"
The results of this Marine recruit study are unsurprising. The problem is that we could have 100 similar studies and our public health officials, and the public at large, will ignore them. When there is no better option, humans are incapable of abandoning unsuccessful strategies.
Especially if they profit by destroying and rebuilding the economy
