The issue is compounded by the fact that you don't get to choose your ISP most of the time. So if Comcast throttles a service you like, but AT&T doesn't, and AT&T doesn't service your area, you're stuck.

I guess? I'd never heard of Plaxo Pulse before this tweet. Short reading of it shows that it launched in 2007, was acquired by Comcast in 2008, and abandoned social media in 2011. All this happened before the 2014 reclassification.

That's exactly my point. They were trying this stuff before, and they were bad at it. But the free market will let them be exactly as much worse as the price to use an alternative, and, worse, they get to set that price.
