If a firefighter starts pay at 40k/year, uses that to pay for housing, food, etc. Inmates already get that? Should they get he same pay?

Even if they"volunteer" for the duty, $500 a year for dangerous firefighting work seems exploitative to me. Incarcerated as a "resource"…
