It's a real problem for game appreciation. Film students can watch Godfather, Citizen Kane, etc easily. For Gamedev students it's not so.
The time commitment involved in playing, analyzing, and writing thoughts about classic games is enormous compared to film, novels, etc.

Never mind hardware compat issues. May not even be able to play classic games. Problem is very exacerbated with games.
