I don't care if you get the syntax right. I don't care if you don't know or remember function names. That's fine.
I think it's hard to get right. Had a bad exp w/ this once. Interviewer kept interrupting my train of thought by trying to give me hints.

Programming is mostly done in silence, and I think interviews have to reflect that. Best exp I had was a 4 hour "take home" project.

After that, we did an in-person interview where we whiteborded some things, but it was more casual and discussion based.
