Hey US, how long are you going to keep calling it "new" York? You think anyone outside the UK knows where the original York even is?
There are a lot of “new”s throughout the east coast. I have been aware of where York is since I was probably a teenager. Anytime I see a “new” I assume it’s referring to a city or country in Europe because that’s the pattern.

TBH Jersey was weird to me. I didn’t know it was an island to UK’s south.

Even when you do know about the Channel Islands, why someone would go "yes, this part of a vast continent is just like the tiny island I was born that is nothing like here" is one of life's mysteries.
