First time I saw this today the comment about it being real-time made me think "what's so special about that?" Then I remembered hours later that your engine is raytraced. I think the toon shading makes the raytracing harder to appreciate.

Until I see something that raytracing excels at -- overlapping transparency, bounce light, or something else -- it makes me wonder about if the aesthetic is better accomplished with rasterization. Is there something I'm missing?

That's a very valid point. I just wanted to experiment with the mixture of toon characters over a more realistic shaded background, having subtle reflections and GI supporting the blend.
