Graphics programming is this weird thing where drawing a red rectangle can represent man-weeks of work. The fact that you finally see a red triangle means so much other code is working the way it should.

In particular, it really helps that I can validate my vertex output. Half the time I can't see a thing it's because of bad vertex output or depth/stencil rejection. Seeing vertex output is huge in understanding what's going on.pic.twitter.com/TbAskDwG0B

It's also reeeeaaaally useful for reverse-engineering things that might be blackbox otherwise. This has been step one of a lot of workarounds over the years.
