I think there’s a case to be made that SSDs will lower install sizes. Especially for consoles, devs often put multiple copies of the same assets in their games, for head read nearness. Unsure what percentage of total size is duplication tho.
I believe it was one of the early Just Cause games that laid out terrain tiles on disk in both row order and column order, just to make streaming in terrain optimal depending on whether you were moving north-south or east-west. That’s a lot of data.
