Usually “generic” programming isn’t a good idea at all, and instead is just a distraction (procrastination, deferment) from the real work involved in shipping a product.

I have a hash table I use quite frequently in plain C. It works on hashing and storing bytes, and I copy paste it around and modify it as needed.
