Nevermind that if this was used for stats in a game, it's likely used in several places and wrapped in a function, where the function name aids documentation. I agree with Brendan's points generally, I just don't think they apply here.

Another key thing is audience. I chose the long one because this is twitter. Audience is broad. Within a codebase, the range of skill and competency of your audience is much narrower. If your language supports ternaries, you should expect all engineers to know how to read them.
