The way in which it addresses some mental models about pointers is that a link to a tweet could be to 1 tweet, or it could be to the beginning of a thread of tweets. Or it could be to the middle of a thread of tweets, but there’s significance to the offset.

I’ve also been helping with more chores than usual while my wife is pregnant. I was able to make the most of it by employing things I do when programming. Especially as it relates to tasks, there’s a lot to adopt.

Ie, why would you sit and wait for the washer to be done before moving it to the dryer? You’d go do something else in the mean time. Likewise, why would you sit around waiting for a file to load?

That’s a pretty “well duh” example, but the point is that the more you understand the tasks to do, the better you can interleave them and maximize productivity. I bet women in traditional roles make great programmers.

I originally went to college for the art/design side of game dev. I had always thought that programming was for geniuses—and clearly I wasn’t a genius. Programming is not (just) for geniuses. It’s very practical and grounded in nature. Just like doing chores.

The advice applies to high level programmers who think low level programming is only for the savants. A lot of it is more of the same, with different constraints.

If you’re skittish about programming, don’t be. If you’re a stay at home mom, you’re probably already practicing lots of programming concepts and one day could be one of the greats of our industry.
