Just started typing out a message to a colleague to talk about a problem I'm currently having in my game engine. In typing it out and describing the problem and then starting to describe solutions, I realized exactly what I needed to do. Who needs a rubber duck?
I'll add that I ended up wrapping up the message and sending it anyway. Even though I had resolved the issue and no longer needed input, spreading the knowledge of what I was doing and how I got there seemed valuable still, since he too contributes to the project.
Also worth noting that this is why I like long-form messaging in the work environment. When you're forced to write out your problem you often realize you didn't need to take the other person's time. Open floor plans and chat rooms (Skype, Slack etc) can cost productivity.
