All the while we have to be worried about our health--as do the students, of course--but also our employment, whether there will be positions cut, whether there will be more in the spring if our classes aren't over the top engaging enough, and if so there aren't other jobs.
So in addition to the RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF EXTRA WORK to prepare, we are also expected to do our normal summer things, AND WE ARE INCREDIBLY STRESSED. Anxiety, depression, paralysis, the works. Good times. This is why you have to pay full tuition.
Higher ed needs to do a better job explaining that we don’t want schools to skimp on support for faculty adapting their courses for virtual instruction, and that for schools going hybrid, families are paying for both online teaching *and safety measures necessary on campus.
I asked months ago if faculty would be getting any extra time on scholarship requirements. I didn’t get a response. Then end of year review made it clear the answer is no.
